No excuses

May 24, 2008 · Leave a Comment

I’m not taking Kim out anymore as she is not strong enough so theoretically I should have more time for writing.

It’s amazing how quickly the time goes with odd jobs or phone calls but I must really get stuck into the novel.  Because I have somehow lost a doc. in the middle of what I have already written I have to re-type 33 pages.  Luckily I had printed it up years ago when I used to read it to my writing friends.  It is in10font so there is quite a lot of it.  At least I can revise it as I type.

It is sunny with high cloud here today, windy but warmer out than sitting in here.

We must organise a shearer to come.  Keep forgetting to ring in the evening.

There is white hawthorn blossom dusting the hedges and I can see the white blossom of the rowan trees just starting to come.

I took two friends to the Museum of Childhood which is up this way on the A487 up from Carmarthen near Rhos.

After the recent heatwave it has turned damp and cold and it took us by surprise.  It was quite chilly.

it was an interesting trip.  There were a lot more exhibits than we thought there’d be in converted farm buildings.  The display cases were packed with toys, dolls, stuffed animals etc… everything you could possibly think of or a child could want, boys and girls.

We were all oohing and arghing saying we wished we had one of those, and it made me realise that either I’ve forgotten what I did have as a child or I really didn’t have very much.

Growing up in the fifties we were not bombarded with toys like children are now.  There were some really old dolls prams, probably dating back to late 1800’s and early 1900s.  Masses of Corgi, Matchbox and all the other makes of toy  vehicles.  A  train set where you could make the engine go round and a Victorian schoolroom with the old desks and teachers desk with a cane by it.  Plus the naughty chair in the corner.  Nothing new there.

They have a cafe with basic menu so we had toasted sandwiches as it was cold.  It’s a pleasant spot there, disabled and child friendly and something of interest for all ages.

The happy sound of munching

May 12, 2008 · Leave a Comment

We wish we could be more cheerful on this lovely early summer day.  Blue sky with high cloud, the birds are singing away and John has cut the grass.

Kim had roast beef last night and seemed to enjoy it, not a lot, but better than nothing but she doesn’t fancy it today and has not drunk any milk yet.  I might open a tin of sardines this evening, she used to love them when we had sardines on toast for lunch.  But I’m not really hopeful as she has no interest in food and no appetite.

The sheep went to fresh grass in the field over the road yesterday.  The happy sound of munching.  I wanted a photo of a black lamb with its’ mouth full of grass.  We’ve got some but it’s not really good enough.

I was on the Powertrike but Kim showed no interest, normally she assoiciates that with a walk and gets excited.

Turning up the heat

May 8, 2008 · Leave a Comment

A heavy grey mass of cloud is piling up to the west, we’ve had three lovely hot days so let’s hope that that was not our summer.

We probably should have had a barbecue.  John has cleaned up the sheep, dosed them for worms and put Vetrazin fly control on them.  This is to deter the flies who lay the eggs that turn into maggots which attack the sheep.

Not a nice subject and fortunately easily controlled and much less of a problem than it used to be.

We have been talking to vets in two different practices today about Kim who is not well and not eating.  I have just ordered a veterinary homeopathic book from Amazon.  She is now on painkillers and two sorts of antacid medicine.  She is quite bright still but sleepy with the pain relief tonight.  We are doing everything we possibly can for her.

Small turned up after a night out.  The bl—-y cat next night is attacking him and Catty.  Small was trying to hide in the kitchen tonight.  When John opened the lounge door later he was peering across from the sofa to see if the cat was going by.   He loves to sleep upside down, paws in the air, completely abandoned, like the child he still is.

He’s always v pleased to see us, lots of purrs and rubs.  He’s finished up Kim’s chicken.

Rain tomorrow apparently and I take my car for its’ MOT.  How time flies.

What to do on a wet day

May 4, 2008 · Leave a Comment

I am enjoying this broadband connection.  It goes off occasionally but is a vast improvement on the old talktalk dialup.  I ought to write  a letter of complaint to them for their service and mis-information.

It’s raining here but luckily John cleaned my car before the deluge came down.  I had to go down a really cow sh—–y road on Friday and my poor car was stinking.

I should have taken Kim out early but didn’t so hopefully it should be better tomorrow.  I’ve bought myself a diet book on Amazon (for a 1p) +pp as I am determined to lose weight for the forthcoming nuptials in December.

It’s difficult to exercise when I spend so much time in a wheelchair but I must do more pedalling on my Motomed, at least a kilometre a day.

John wants to get the sheep moved over the road but they need worming and their feet doing.  He plans to do this tomorrow.  They are heavy ewes and take a bit of holding and turning over.

It is warmer now so the grass will really put a spurt on with this rain.  Fertiliser is an astronomical price this year (because of oil prices) and I think some of the locals are thinking twice about it or cutting down.

It will put the price of hay up, but then will people pay the price ?-they might have to.

Hope everyone enjoys their MayDay Bank holiday in Britain.
