Lucky Me

August 29, 2009 · Leave a Comment

Mark has come f0r ther weekend, unexpectedly and has given my car a thorough wash and also cleaned around the engine today and it looks a lot better.

This afternoon he’s been clearing trees at the side of the barn, it was all getting a bit overgrown.

Holly is back on the lead now.  She has got confused and took less notice of me so we have decided that a bit more discipline is needed.  She seems happier tonight.  Perhaps the lead gives her security and it makes me more of a ‘pack leader’.

She’s had a game with her football and wanted to go to bed but found Catty sitting on it so that put her off.

Ode to a Welsh Summer

August 26, 2009 · Leave a Comment

The rain it raineth every day,

on Janet, Sylvia and May.

My new scooter needs a brolly,

When I go out with collie, Holly.

I think that I will move to Spain,

where it will never rain again.

Their land is scorched, black are the trees,

the smoke and smell, it makes me sneeze.

So what to do? A compromise?

Somewhere that’s dry with sunny skies.

Mark andVivi call, say hurry…

come and live in sunny SURREY!!

Well, I never did want to be Poet Laureate!!

John bought Holly a lovely red and blue kick football.  It had a long tether on it so that you can attach it to a foot and kick it.  We have tied on some tape and she has had great games with it, carrying and throwing it around.  The pic shows her watched by Small lurking behind the stone lion.  He spoilt the game tonight chasing afer the ball himself.  So Holly chased Small.

There is now  a collection of ‘toys’ around, and the corner of the yard where she sits under the Leylandi is a real mess where she digs and runs up and down the bank.  She is so different to Kim, and all the dogs we’ve had.

Sometimes she comes in all wags and pleased, other times she’s skittish and looks like we’ve shouted at her.  You can hadly say no to her without her being completely chastened.

Holly…

It’s like having a toddler in the house again and putting everything up high.  She’s had the astilbe out of its pot and out on the lawn tonight.  She picks up big plants.  John’s boots that are normally by the back door are in his tool room because she’s trying to take them outside.  She takes the wedges from the doors.

John bought her a lovely bright red and blue football today.  She’s a bit under whelmed with it but had a chase around with it earlier.  Small was frightened at first, especially as it’s nearly bigger than him but he had a chase too.  Holly likes to make up her own games, she doesn’t want you throwing things.

She still has her ‘wary’ moments when she suddenly decides she can’t trust you and she daren’t come near.

It’s been very windy here today, more like October.  A lot of debris down on the road.  Perhaps October will have better weather but we cannot make hay in Oct.  Elfed will have his sheep here again so there will be plenty of grass for them.

There might be some  sort of big shopping complex come to Newcastle Emlyn, the plans are up in town.  Lidl have put their plans on hold for the moment, until the recession improves.  I have that from the car park man in Lidls and the staff told me as well.

Holly

is here in the study, having decided the radio and monitor will not hurt her.  Had a good look at everything.  She has discovered digging and has made hrself two holes.  One under the tree on the bank where she sits out of the wind and rain, rather snug,  Last night she dug up under the forsythia which is a shame as it has taken years to establish itself.  She is acting more and more like the young dog she is.

She loves to play and likes to throw her yellow bone around (thank you pugs).  In fact she picks up anything she can get in her mouth and play with.  She also likes to bounce the cats – who are not so keen, especially when they are hunting.  Catty was not amused the other night to be greeted joyfully when she was watching a mouse hole.

Small likes to be the one who does the catching, they are good friends though and it’s good to see Holly has settled down with them.

We went shopping on Wednesday and sat in Lidl’s car park afterwards to have out lunch.  An R reg Mercedes parked in front of us and we watched what they did.  He had parked close to the 0508 Fiesta which was parked at an angle next to him.  He opened his door, which touched the Fiesta, never mind that.  He got out, then his wife climbed over the seat and got out the driver’s door.

The man went round to passenger door and opened it, got bags out and then left the door slightly open.  He followed the wife over to the shop.

I said to John ‘He’s left his door open!!’  We watched them come back, he opened the driver’s door.  They put the shopping in the boot and she walked round to passenger door, shut it and then climbed back in through the driver’s door.

We can assume they have a problem with their doors but why didn’t she just get in her side, he go round and shut it and then he get in the driver’s side.  Perhaps it wouldn’t shut from inside…???

Anyway, it gave us something to watch…

I must do my homework for Scribbler’s on Monday.  The subject is double decker buses.  Not v inspiring but i think I know what I’m going to do.

It’s blowing across damp, drizzly, occasional sun, could be better.  Lloyd has two fields cut for silage, they’ll be soaked now.

It’s supposed to clear up later so I’ll wait to take Holly out,.

Chris the cleaner is here, they have 15 acres of hay down but they’ll have to do silage, the forecast just isn’t good enough.  Bloody useless weather here, excuse my French….

It’s v good of Mark to do all that work on the Scimitar.

Paul came in last night and put the AVG security on that I didn’t rally need, shan’t get that again.  He’s got a lovely BMW -vey nice.

All of a muddle

I’m trying to sort out my anti virus on here but myu rescuer, Paul is coming over tomorrow night to help.

Holly is well and sitting outside, watching the back door.  She won’t go up the village way now.  Last sunday the German Shepherd at No3 cncl houses was barking at their gate and she is so frightened of it.  On the way back, I called out to the people to ask them to take it in, explaining that she is a nervous rescue dog.  They did, pulling and kicking the dog which made it howl and yell which made it all worse.

Holly won’t even let me put her on the lead at the top of the drive, she ran back in the house yesterday and had to be prsuaded out to go the other way.

She doesn’t turn a hair at the huge great tractors  that thunder by.  Any loud bangs, we get accusing looks that we’re trying to kill her!!

She spends all day outside, plays and has palled up with Small.  They have chasing games, (a bit one sided) but he doesn’t want her aroiund when he’s hunting.  Catty doesn’t want to be friendly with anyone but us, although she’s not hostile to Holly.

Rain again, again

August 3, 2009 · Leave a Comment

Actually  we’ve been v lucky with our weekend weather, with J and M and R here.  It’s been really nice.  On Sat we went to Carmarthen, had a look round the new market.  Some of the previous stall holders have not come back but R and myself bought linen tea clothes.  No where else you can get them.  Had lunch at the cafe we’ve been to before sitting outside.  All v pleasant then I drove to Llansteffan as I knew there was a walk by the estuary.  J had to push me across the grass but they they on a bench in the sun and looked out across to Ferryside.

They enjoyed themselves, then had a cup of tea in the cafe and we came home.

John had booked us in the Blue Bell in town and that was good.  3 of us had crab Thermidor, v nice.

Yesterday we went for a walk in the morning with Holly, played cards and had an earlier  dinner.

Today, R is here, had been to town for a paper and we are taking H out but it is blowing across so I don’t know if we’ll go anywhere.

Folks might like to look at the link of the sierraleonerangers that is on here  to see what Mark and Vivi are doing.  They are asking for help with the project and someone might know someone who can help.

Anything is appreciated…
